Lawrence, Kan. – Marywood University received two Sports Turf Managers Association awards for the top collegiate baseball and softball fields in the country, organization officials announced. Sports Turf Manager Rob Galdieri earned the industry's highest honor for tending to the STMA Field of the Year.

"I am incredibly proud to have earned STMA's College Field of the Year in both baseball and softball," Galdieri said. "It is a great honor for Marywood's athletic facilities to be on par with Division I institutions and for their quality to be recognized at the national level.

"The cooperation of our administration, coaches and players have made this award possible."

Both Galdieri and Marywood held the distinction of being the only winners – at any level – to win more than one Field of the Year Award.16378

In just his third year at Marywood, Galdieri has tirelessly made Marywood's athletics facilities among the nation's best. In February, the baseball field was recognized as the 2016 Keystone Athletic Field Manager's Organization (KAFMA) Field of Distinction.

Since 1992, STMA's Field of the Year Award is presented to members who manage baseball, football, soccer, softball and other sporting playing surfaces at the professional, collegiate, schools (K-12) and parks and recreation level.

STMA serves as the 2,600-member professional association for sports field managers worldwide who are critical to the safety of athletes and coaches.
Awards will be presented at the 28th annual STMA Conference & Exhibition in Orlando, Fla. on Jan. 24-7.

Michigan State, Kennesaw State and University of Portland were the other winners in the college and university division. Marywood was the lone Division III institution recognized.
