Scranton, PA - Marywood University advanced to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III men's lacrosse semifinals for the first time in four seasons with a 10-7 victory over fifth-seeded Misericordia University Wednesday in the first round. Fourth-seeded Marywood moves on to face No. 1 Western New England University Saturday in Alfred, New York.

Alfred University will host both the semifinals and championship round (held Sunday). Alfred will face Richard Stockton University, winners of an 8-7 first round game over Lebanon Valley College. It marks the first ECAC win for the Pacers since beating Misericordia 10-9 in the 2012 tournament in Westminster, Maryland.

Marywood (12-5) sets a program record with its 12th victory of the season. The Pacers won 11 games in 2010 and 2011.

Scott Slater scored the Pacers' first four goals of the game, all coming in the first period. He finished with a game-high five goals and one assist. Needing just two entering the game, Slater becomes the seventh Marywood men's lacrosse student-athlete to join the 100 Point Club.

Dylan Swope tallied a goal and three assists. His four points put him into another tie with teammate Sam Trill for the program's career points record. Trill added a goal and an assist. Both seniors have 178 points.

Entering the week leading Division III in save percentage, Joe Magargal made 18 saves and allowed five goals for his 11th victory of the season.

Cody Bachman also contributed with a goal and two assists. Michael Squillante won eight faceoffs and made seven ground balls. Brandon Terlizzi added five ground balls, and Ryan Nowell caused a pair of turnovers.

Marywood staved off a late Misericordia comeback. Trailing 10-3 halfway through the fourth period, Misericordia (10-9) strung together a four-goal streak in a 2:37 span to close the gap to just four goals. Marywood held the Cougars scoreless for the final 2:23 to secure its ticket to Alfred. Misericordia scripted an outstanding 29 shots in the fourth period, only eight of which were on target.

The Pacers trailed 2-1 through the first two minutes of the game. Marywood scored 10 answered goals to extend the lead to 9-2 by the halfway mark of the third period. Slater scored the first just 44 seconds into the game. Misericordia put together two in a six-second span when Lane Kocovsky and Andrew Reynolds found the back of the net.

Slater evened it at two apiece from his second Swope helper of the game at 8:27. Slater redirected a Bachman pass into net with 42 seconds left in what was the game-winning goal. He totaled his fourth of the period when he lasered a Terlizzi feed at the buzzer for a 4-2 lead.

Slater was at it again only 82 seconds into the second period, this time assisting a Swope netter for his fifth point in as many Pacers goals. Stephen Deiner ended the streak with an unassisted tally 3:32 remaining in the half.

Nowell provided his first goal of the year on a fast-break opportunity with 9:34 left in the third. Skyler Swope sent a long pass downfield that was met with a 120 degree turn and a quick strike past the keeper.

Marywood was out-shot by the Cougars by a 55-32 margin. It marks the sixth victory of the year in which the Pacers were out-shot by their opponent. Marywood edged the Cougars in ground balls (50-48), and both teams won nine faceoffs. The Pacers were successful in four extra-man opportunities that spanned six minutes.

Brian White came in to make one save.

Chris Fleming scored two goals for the Cougars. Lane Kocovsky had a goal and an assist for three points, in addition to a game-high eight ground balls.
