Aston, PA – Third-seeded Marywood University's season came to a close in a 12-5 loss to Neumann University Thursday in the Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse semifinals. The game, postponed Wednesday due to unplayable surfaces, took approximately 3:30 to play after a 115-minute lightning delay. The Knights advance to the CSAC championship game Saturday to face top-seeded Cabrini College.

Dana Grossjung and Sarah Caughy both scored two goals for the Pacers. Michelle Thompson added a goal, and Natalie Burke provided an assist.

Caughy and Ashley Cavellier, both seniors, led the team with four ground balls. Mary Ninivaggi had two caused turnovers.

Lauren Smith made 15 saves in goal for the Pacers.

Neumann took off in the first half against the short-handed Pacers, outscoring them 6-1 in the first 30 minutes. Mandy Fedak started things off for Neumann with a goal 3:07 into the contest on a free-position shot. Eight-five seconds later, Rebecca Dolenti provided Neumann a 2-0 lead. Caughy cut the deficit in half with her 50th goal of the season before the Knights defense cranked in. Marywood was held scoreless for the remaining 26:13 of the half.

It wasn't until Neumann tallied two to start the second that Marywood found its rhythm offensively. Thompson scored a goal at 24:21. Burke authored a pass to Grossjung to make it an 8-3 deficit with 22:19 remaining.

After Shae Risley extended the lead back to six, Grossjung stormed her way past the Knight defense and struck a goal with 8:59. Immediately following Grossjung's thunderous score, lightning in the Aston area forced the 1:45 delay. Marywood came out of the break with a Caughy goal at 4:25 that slimmed the deficit to four. Neumann had three goals in the final 4:03 to secure their ticket to Radnor.

The loss closes the books on the careers of seniors Caughy, Kimberly Commisso, Kelly Kryspin, Kathy DiGiacomo and Leigha Dolcemascolo.
